A 7½-hour standoff at a home in Crothersville that started late Monday ended with the arrest of a 45-year-old man when Jackson County SWAT team negotiators were able to talk him into surrendering, police report.

After Jeremy Allen Cockerham of Crothersville left the home in the 400 block of South Kovener Street on Tuesday morning, he was arrested on the Jackson Circuit Court warrant for two Level 5 felony counts of intimidation and a B misdemeanor count of criminal mischief.

He also faces new charges of invasion of privacy and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon stemming from the standoff that started when he fired multiple shots at four officers serving the warrant.

Cockerham was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 7:36 a.m. Tuesday and is being held without bond pending his initial hearing.

On Wednesday, Cockerham also was arrested on a murder count. When asked about the murder charge, a representative from the Crothersville Police Department said he was not at liberty to discuss it and Assistant Chief Jonathon Tabor, who investigated the incident, was off for the rest of the week.

Tabor said in a news release issued Wednesday that he and Crothersville Officer Jacob Sharp with Jackson County Sheriff’s Department officers Jordan Hawn and Billy Dishman, initially went to the Kovener Street home to serve the warrant at 11:45 p.m. on Monday.

When at the front door speaking with a resident of the home, police attempted to make entry and multiple gun shots were fired at them from inside, police said.

The four officers involved moved to cover, set up a perimeter, and called for the SWAT team, police said.

Cockerham surrendered peacefully and without incident and no officers were injured during the standoff, Tabor said.

Brownstown and Seymour officers also assisted during the standoff.
