Jackson County’s unemployment rate stood at 4% in June, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development’s latest report released Monday.

Overall, 22,445 county residents were on the job in June, which is 1,219 more than in June 2020 when 21,226 county residents were working. The jobless rate at that time was 9.9% because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The number of county residents reporting they were looking for work in June of this year was 936, compared to the 2,334 who were looking for work during the same month a year earlier.

The county’s labor force was 23,381 in June, which is 179 less than the same month in 2020.

The county’s unemployment rate for June was lower than the state’s rate of 4.7% and the national rate of 6.1%.

Other nearby counties and their unemployment rates for June were Bartholomew, 3.7%; Brown, 4.3%; Jennings, 4.7%; Lawrence, 4.4%; Monroe, 4.4%; Scott, 5.3%; and Washington, 4%.

LaGrange and Adams counties had the lowest rates in the state at 2.8%, and Howard County had the highest at 9.4%.
