The State Road 135 bridge over Kiper Creek north of State Road 58 in Jackson County reopened Friday following a superstructure replacement project that began in March.

The project is part of a $2.3 million bridge replacement and rehabilitation contract that is scheduled to continue following the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

On or after Tuesday, Indiana Department of Transportation contractor E and B Paving Inc. plans to close the second bridge on the contract located approximately 5 miles north of State Road 58 over Little Salt Creek.

State Road 135 is expected to remain closed for up to 90 days at this location for a deck overlay project. The official detour will follow State Road 46 to Interstate 65 to State Road 58.

Additional projects include:

  • Bridge replacement on State Road 135 at Kiper Creek (2.72 miles north of State Road 58) — 120-day closure
  • Small structure replacement on State Road 58 over unnamed tributary to Buck Creek (4.14 miles east of State Road 258) — 30-day closure

The contract was awarded in August 2020 and is expected to be complete in the fall of 2022. Additional information will be shared prior to future road restrictions or closures.

Motorists are reminded to slow down, use extra caution and drive distraction-free in and near all work zones. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
