Brownstown Central had its top six golfers score in the 40s to defeat Trinity Lutheran 181-201 Monday at Hickory Hills Golf Course.

Caiden Gwin was low for the Braves with 43 and that his the first time he has been Brownstown’s medalist this spring.

Connor Gwin was next for the Braves with 45, and he was followed by Caden Clodfelder with 46, Chandler Stahl with 47, and Jaren Cunningham and Reid Campbell shot 49s.

Trinity’s Jacob Sabotin was the meet medalist with 39, and he was followed by Kade Hill with 49, Preston Kovener shot 54 and Caleb Williams 59.

Braves coach Brent Hattabaugh said, “The 181 is an improvement over the last couple weeks. The boys have been practicing on their short game and it paid off.

“Our goal is to shoot in the upper 30s or low 40s, and we’re getting better. We’re showing improvement.”

The Braves will compete in the Mid-Southern Conference tournament Saturday at Wooded view Golf Course in Clarksville.

Brownstown will begin teeing off at 8 a.m. and Hattabaugh said, “Our goal is to finish in the top five in the conference.”

Trinity will compete in a meet at Hauser on Thursday.

Baseball

Jeff rallies to top Seymour

A Jeffersonville batter hit a 2-run home run with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game 4-4, and the Red Devils scored a run in the ninth inning to top Seymour 5-4 in nine innings in the opening round of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament Monday night.

Vince Wilson hit a single and double and scored a run to lead the Seymour offense. Jounas Rodriquez, Charlie Longmeier and Bret Perry scored Seymour’s other runs. Brayden Wilson and Perry had Seymour’s other hits.

Aden Burnside pitched the first eight innings for the Owls. “He threw pretty well,” Owls coach Jeremy Richey said.

The Owls will host Scottsburg today for senior night, then will host Jennings County in the loser’s bracket of the HHC tournament on Wednesday.

Tennis

Trinity defeats Henryville 4-1

Trinity got a solid win ahead of a busy week on Monday night over Henryville. The Cougars won the match 4-1.

Sarah Lemming won 6-0, 6-0 at one singles, Regan Cain won 6-2, 6-0 at two singles and Drew Hubbard won 6-0, 6-1 at three singles.

In one doubles, Katelyn Mensendiek and Kiley Zabel won 6-2, 6-1, and in two doubles, the tandem of Erin Enzinger and Rebekah Brown lost 4-6, 4-6.

Trinity will at Salem today at 5 p.m.

Softball

Brownstown falls to Columbus North

The Braves had a tough time getting the bats going on Monday night, losing to Columbus North 7-0.

Brownstown had three hits on the day, coming from Alli Reynolds, Addyson Coomer and Rylee May.

Kelsey Schneider pitched 6.1 innings and allowed 3 runs, and Rylin Huddleston pitched 0.2 innings and allowed 4 runs. Schneider had 4 strikeouts on the day.

Brownstown will look to bounce back tonight at home against Silver Creek at 5:30 p.m.
