As part of Crothersville’s homecoming celebration Saturday, guard Cable Spall not only scored a team-leading 29 points to carry the Tigers to a 54-43 boys basketball victory over visiting Columbus Christian, the senior was selected as homecoming king.

Spall added 13 rebounds and four assists in his all-around king-of-the-court performance that featured a second-half comeback after the Tigers fell behind early.

Columbus Christian (13-10) led slightly in the early going, up 13-12 after one quarter and 22-20 at halftime. Crothersville came back to take a 35-30 lead after three quarters and pulled away in the fourth period.

“We continue to get better every game, and tonight, we played our first complete game of the year,” Crothersville coach Bobby Riley said of his 3-11 team.

Quinten Keasler collected 15 rebounds and made four blocked shots as a defensive force for the Tigers.

“He provided us with a defensive presence in the paint,” Riley said. “He was very active tonight, and he can be a difference maker. Spall played well with 29 points, and he gives all he has every game and provides great leadership.”

Columbus Christian’s leading scorer was Jacob Conrad with 16 points.

The other Crothersville scorers were Jacob Moeller with seven points, Damian Bowman with six, Keasler with five, Zach Helt with four and Matthew Clouse with three.

“The team is learning their roles and starting to execute the game plan better each night,” Riley said. “I’ve been pleased with our progress the last four games. We just have to keep putting in the work.”

Columbus Christian won the junior varsity game 60-38. Logen O’Sullivan led Crothersville with 10 points. Devin Morgan scored eight with seven rebounds, and Elijah Plasse had five points and nine rebounds.

Senior cheerleader Olivia Robinson was chosen as homecoming queen.
