The 2021-22 calendar for Medora Community School Corp. includes a fall break (Oct. 18-22); a Christmas break (Dec. 20-31); and a spring break (March 21-25).

It doesn’t, however, contain the words "snow makeup days."

Those three words, in fact, have likely become a thing of the past thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.

Superintendent Roger Bane told school board members during their meeting Monday that because of the move to eLearning Days, there will no longer be a need for the calendar to contain snow makeup days.

"We were approved for eLearning about three years ago," Bane said during the meeting in the school cafetorium.

In the future, eLearning Days will be used for student instruction and other canceled student instructional days, he said.

The calendar also lists Aug. 10 as the first day for students and May 26, 2022, as the last student day.

In an unrelated matter, Bane reported $5,985.19 was received in teacher appreciation grant dollars from the Indiana Department of Education.

He said nine teachers were eligible (rated highly effective) for that money and each would receive $575.58. Trustees approved the distribution of those dollars.

The board also approved the resignations of elementary boys basketball coach Dennis Dunn and instructional aide Kim Zuber, and the employment of Judd Fish as elementary boys basketball coach and Michelle Hedinger as instructional aide.

They also approved the resignation of board member John Hughes.

Hughes, who has been a board member since 2014, resignation was official Tuesday.

The board will appoint Hughes’ replacement during the next meeting, which is set for 6 p.m. Jan. 11.
