Freshman Pedro Cerino won two individual events and was part of two winning relays as the Seymour boys swim team beat Jeffersonville 116-49 on Tuesday night at the Seymour Aquatic Center.
Senior Bryce Miller matched Cerino with the same victory total.
The Owl girls lost to Jeffersonville 100-80 despite double individual victories and a key leg on a winning relay team by junior Maren McClure. McClure captured the 100-yard butterfly in 1 minute, 4.59 seconds and the 200 individual medley in 2:24.91. She also was a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay.
Diver Kate Connell took the 1-meter event with a point total of 122.48.
“I was really happy with the way I swam tonight,” McClure said.
This was a meet Seymour trained through to keep building toward sectional and other championship meets later in the season, the usual philosophy followed by coach Dave Boggs.
“We swam tired,” Boggs said. “We swim through our dual meets. We have a bigger prize at the end of the season.”
Cerino has now won four individual races in his first two meets with the varsity, showing off his versatility. He is aiming to be known as someone who can do anything well in the water.
“I don’t have a favorite event,” he said. “I want to do well in all events.”
The Owls boys and girls teams celebrated senior night with recognition for the oldest members of both squads.
It was a freshman swimmer, however, Camryn Wilson, who sang the National Anthem.
Cerino was under a minute at 59.19 in the fly, a fast time for early in the season. And he clocked 2:06.85 in the 200 individual medley, which allowed him to show off proficiency in four strokes.
