Charles “Swampy” Douglas, of Medora, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at IU Methodist Hospital on Monday, September 14, 2020. He was 77.

Charles Ray Douglas entered this life on June 6, 1943 in Jellico, TN. He was the loving son of the late Hobert Hardin Douglas and Bonnie (Coffman)Douglas Neal. Charlie was united in marriage to Rebecca (Neal) Douglas on December 27, 1984. With his union, he was blessed with four children, Darla, Travis, Charles H., and Brad. Charlie was their “Hero.”

Charlie was a loving father and grandfather. He loved being an avid outdoorsman. He could be found cutting fire wood, tending to his garden, squirrel hunting, fishing, tending to his livestock, or watching the National Geographic Channel and the History Channel. He loved following politics, boxing, and wrestling. He was a Member of the United Autoworker’s Union and the American Legion Gillions Post 33 of Bedford.

He was a successful Tool and Die Maker for the GM Foundry for 25 years, then he continued his trade at Crane Hill Machinery.

Charlie will be missed by his loving family, his wife of 36 years Rebecca, his daughter, Darlla Scott and her fianc? Randy Branaman of Medora, his 3 sons, Charles “Chuck” Douglas, Travis Mason and his wife Jessie of Freetown, and Brad Mason and his significant other Courtney of Bedford, his 10 grandchildren, Sharlie Douglas, Justin Ray Douglas, Katlyn Douglas, Mark Mason, Alivia Mason, Destiny Barr, Lilly Cockerham, Ayrianna Cockerham, Hunter Mason and Colton Mason, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Brenda O’Brien and her husband David of Columbus, and Barbara Rose of Taylorsville.

Hew was preceded in death by his father, Hobert Douglas and his step-mother Belle, his mother Bonnie Neal and step-father William, a sister, Anna Faye Williams, and 2 brothers, George Douglas, and Johnny Douglas, and a grand-daughter Mariah Douglas

A Funeral Service will be conducted at Hague Funeral Home of Medora on Saturday September 19, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.

Burial will be private at a later date.

Friends may visit at Hague Funeral Home of Medora on Friday September 18, 2020 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday after 10:00 a.m. until time of the service

Memorials may be written to the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital through the funeral home.
