Man arrested for stealing vehicle, violating stay-at-home order

Indiana State Police arrested a Hendricks County man after stopping him in a stolen vehicle on Interstate 65 near Crothersville.

Joshua Russell Smith, 35, of Clayton faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, theft and violation of the executive stay-at-home order.

According to a news release from the Indiana State Police, troopers were notified around 2 p.m. of a potentially stolen vehicle traveling southbound on I-65 in Jackson County. The tan 2010 Chevrolet Impala was being tracked due to a stolen cellphone that was in the vehicle, police said.

Trooper Seth Davidson with the Versailles Post located the vehicle on the interstate southbound near Seymour.

Police were able to stop the vehicle on I-65 southbound at Exit 41 near Uniontown and arrest Smith.

He was transported to the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown, where he remains without bond.

Davidson was assisted by Indiana State Police Sgt. Stephen Wheeles and Crothersville Police Department Officer Chris Cooper.
