The Brownstown Public Library’s Adult Book Club will meet at 11 a.m. Feb. 14 to discuss "Then She Was Gone" by Lisa Jewell.

Then she was 15, her mother’s golden girl. She had her whole life ahead of her. And then, in the blink of an eye, Ellie was gone. Ten years later, Laurel has never given up hope of finding her daughter. Then one day, a charming and charismatic stranger called Floyd walks into a café and sweeps Laurel off her feet.

Before too long, she’s staying the night at his house and being introduced to his 9-year-old daughter. Poppy is precocious and pretty, and meeting her completely takes Laurel’s breath away because Poppy is the spitting image of Ellie when she was that age. Now, all of those unanswered questions that have haunted Laurel come flooding back. What happened to Ellie? Who still has secrets to hide?

The club is for anyone older than 18 to share their interpretations of the current book selection. People may attend even if they haven’t finished the book as long as they don’t mind hearing how it ends. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussion, but listeners are welcome.

Light refreshments are served by individuals from the group on a volunteer basis. Copies of the book are available one month in advance at the circulation desk at the library, 120 E. Spring St., Brownstown. Karen Raymer leads the discussion.
