Making it happen

Thumbs up to those involved in making the 51st annual Fort Vallonia Days a success this past weekend. That includes the festival committee and all of the volunteers who put in countless hours each year.

Sectional champions

Thumbs up to the Brownstown Central High School and Trinity Lutheran High School volleyball teams for winning sectional titles Saturday. Members of the Braves squad, which captured the school’s 20th sectional title by beating Edgewood in the title contest at Spencer, are Halle Hehman, Addie Wilkerson, Keeli Darlage, Riley Nuss, Myka Keltz, Jennifer Pence, Kendra McCory, Kayla Guthrie, Reagan Nuss, Zoe Stuckwisch, Erin Singleton and Kelsey Wischmeier. Members of the Trinity squad, which grabbed its sixth straight sectional title and eighth overall with a win over Rising Sun in the sectional finale at Trinity, are Hannah Sabotin, Bailey Reynolds, Kennedy Hoffman, Elly Carter, Sydney Jaynes, Kayla Goecker, Estella Kleffman, Kamzi Gross, Paige Lawrence, Ruthie Bingham and Bailey Tabeling.

Moving on

Thumbs up to members of the Seymour boys and girls cross country teams along with Crothersville’s Kaylyn Holman and David Rose for earning berths in the semistate at Brown County on Saturday. Members of the Seymour girls team, which finished second at Ceraland Park on Saturday, are Makenna Sunbury, Grace Rennekamp, Kinsley Folsom, Elizabeth Hougland, Samantha Jacobi, Lillian Sunbury and Grace Lewis. Members of the Owls boys squad, which finished fourth in the regional, are Michael Proffer, Lucas Bane, Connor Harriss, Luke Plummer, Jude Bane, Luke Hauersperger and Brandon Kleber. Holman, who lost her left shoe about a mile into the girls race, advanced by finishing eighth, while Rose placed 19th to advance.

Award winning

Thumbs up to Jackson County Prosecutor Jeff Chalfant who recently received Turning Point Domestic Violence Services’ 2019 Mission Partner Award. Others from Jackson County recognized by the agency were Jackson County Jail Commander Chris Everhart, who received the Community Partner Award; Jill Willey with the Jackson County Public Library, who received the Volunteer of the Year Award; and Grant Elliott, a Teens for Change ambassador at Brownstown Central High School, who received the Teen Volunteer of the Year Award.

Excellent message

Thumbs up to the Rev. Stan Thomas for an excellent message Tuesday night at Reddington Christian Church during the Jackson County Men’s Fellowship monthly meeting and Reddington Christian Church for providing a place for that meeting.
