The Class A Trinity Lutheran volleyball team started their postseason journey with a dominant win over Jackson County rival Crothersville in straight sets.

Trinity Lutheran won 25-5, 25-5, 25-7 on Tuesday night and will face another county rival in Medora on Saturday at 11 a.m. back at Trinity Lutheran High School in the sectional semifinal.

Senior Hannah Sabotin led the Cougars with 18 kills — her highest kill output in a three-set match this season. She earned 28 two weeks ago at No. 4 Loogootee.

Sabotin was one of eight different Cougars to log a kill on Tuesday night with juniors Sydney Jaynes and Kennedy Hoffman adding eight and six kills, respectively.

The Baileys led the Cougars in the serving department with junior Bailey Reynolds and Bailey Tabeling each netting four aces. Sophomore Stella Kleffman had three.

Tabeling and Reynolds also were the top defensive players for Trinity Lutheran with 10 digs for the freshman and nine for the junior. Kleffman and Elly Carter each had eight digs.

Reynolds also had a team-best 36 assists in the match, building on her 1,500 for her career and towards 2,000.

For Crothersville, their season ends with a 5-12 record and they’ll lose two irreplaceable seniors in Rebekah Cook and Makayla Helt, who were stalwarts on the court for the Tigers.
