Girls Soccer

Owls cap regular season with win

In one last tuneup before the postseason begins, the Seymour Owls blanked the Silver Creek Dragons 2-0.

Mia Schrader had a foot in both goals for the Owls, scoring one and assist on the other scored by Aidan Hiester. Haley Westfall had the assist on Schrader’s goal.

Both Kate Snook and Ellen Zabor got some time minding the net, each recording a save. 

It was Snook’s eighth shutout of the season, which gives her the new single-season record for shutouts for the Owls. 

Seymour opens up sectional play at home on Tuesday against Bedford North Lawrence.

Volleyball

Tigers honor seniors with win

The Crothersville volleyball team sent their seniors out with a four-set win over Shawe Memorial.

The Tigers dropped the opening set 23-25, but won the next three 25-23, 25-14, 25-22 to earn back-to-back wins after a Thursday victory over Jackson County rival Medora.

Senior Bekah Cook led the Tigers with two kills and also had an ace. Fellow senior Makayla Helt had the team lead in serve aces with four. 

Addy Cole had a team-best four kills. 

Thursday’s results

The Class A top-ranked Trinity Lutheran volleyball team went on the road and downed No. 2 Loogootee in five sets.

The Cougars won the first, third and fifth sets 25-17, 25-15, 15-13 while dropping the second and fourth sets 22-25, 23-25. 

It’s the first time the Cougars have gone past three sets in two seasons. 

Hannah Sabotin had a team-leading 28 kills and four blocks while Sydney Jaynes had 12 kills and a block. Bailey Tabeling added eight kills to the attack.

Kennedy Hoffman won a team-high five aces, Kamzi Gross had 31 digs and Bailey Reynolds had 53 assists. 

The Cougars (23-5) will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Class A No. 11 Rock Creek.
