Police arrested a Seymour man after detectives investigated an incident that took place last fall, authorities report.

Christian Baltista Tenorio, 23, faces a preliminary Level 1 felony charge of rape and a preliminary Level 2 charge of child molesting after his arrest Wednesday.

Seymour Detective Sgt. C.J. Foster said those charges stem from an incident in October 2018. The incident was reported to police Sept. 10, he said.

Foster said the 11-year-old child told investigators they were raped and molested by Tenorio at a home in the area of Oak Street on the east side of the city. Charges were enhanced since the child is under 14 years old and Tenorio is older than 21, Foster said.

Tenorio declined an interview with police and was arrested around 6:20 p.m. without incident.

He was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 7:42 p.m. and is being held without bond pending his initial hearing.

A probable cause affidavit had not been filed in Jackson Circuit Court at press time.

A Level 1 felony is punishable between 20 and 40 years upon conviction. The advisory sentence is 30 years.
