Four people, including three Jackson County residents, were arrested Wednesday on felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from an investigation into the distribution of heroin/fentanyl in the area, police report.

The investigation that led to the arrests of Cory M. Cox, 29, Sheena A. Burton, 36, and Justin Levi Anderson, 26, all of Seymour, and Darren Lamont Green, 23, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, began when Seymour narcotics detectives received information about heroin/fentanyl being distributed in the area, according to a news release from the Seymour Police Department.

During that investigation, detectives were able to determine that heroin/fentanyl was being trafficked between Louisville, Kentucky, and Seymour, police said.

Police reported they also were able to purchase about 14 grams of heroin/fentanyl from Cox and Burton through controlled purchases. It also was discovered that Cox and Burton were at times providing care for a child at their residence in the 100 block of Stevens Drive in Seymour, police said.

Cox, Burton and Anderson were arrested Wednesday after police served a warrant at that residence. The warrant was served by Seymour detectives along with officers from the Indianapolis office (Group 51) of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and Columbus/Bartholomew County Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team.

While searching the residence, police said they found 4 grams of heroin/fentanyl, 6 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana and numerous items of drug paraphernalia.

Cox was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of cocaine or other narcotic, dealing in cocaine or other narcotic, neglect of a dependent, two counts of dealing in methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, visiting/maintaining a common nuisance, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana/hashish.

As the investigation continued, Indiana State Police troopers and Seymour narcotics detectives conducted a traffic stop in a white Dodge Charger on Interstate 65 near the 39-mile-marker south of Uniontown, police said.

The driver of that vehicle, later identified as Green, was believed to be participating in the trafficking of illegal narcotics, police said.

During the stop, police reported finding about 37 grams of heroin/fentanyl and arrested Green on preliminary charges of dealing in cocaine or other narcotic and possession of cocaine or other narcotic. He was booked into the jail 2:11 p.m. Wednesday and also being held without bond pending his initial hearing.
