The search for a Jackson County man wanted in Jennings County since Thursday afternoon ended early Saturday morning in Seymour.
Seymour police captured James Helton after a two-hour standoff with the department’s SWAT team, Lt. John Watson said.
Helton was arrested around 3:30 a.m. at a home in the 600 block of North Walnut Street in Seymour. He had been wanted after he pointed a firearm at a man and woman Thursday afternoon in Jennings County, according to a news release from the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department.
Watson said police located the vehicle Helton was suspected of driving parked outside the Walnut Street home around 10 p.m. Friday. They also received information Helton was inside at the residence.
Police then were able to evacuate the residence without Helton’s knowledge, Watson said.
Helton left the home without incident and was taken into custody before being turned over to the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department.
Helton, who faces felony charges of intimidation and pointing a firearm, is being held at the Jennings County Jail.
The incident follows a similar one on Thursday.
Police said Helton fled to his home in far eastern Jackson County after the incident in which he pointed the firearm at the man and woman in the Hayden area.
Jennings County Sheriff’s Department officers and the Indiana State Police SWAT team surrounded his home on County Road 1300E in Jackson County for hours before discovering he was not there although the vehicle he was seen driving was there.
Sheriff Rick Meyer assisted in that incident. County Road 1300E is the Jackson County line with Jennings County.
