The search for a Jackson County man wanted in Jennings County since Thursday afternoon ended early Saturday morning in Seymour.

Seymour police captured James Helton after a two-hour standoff with the department’s SWAT team, Lt. John Watson said.

Helton was arrested around 3:30 a.m. at a home in the 600 block of North Walnut Street in Seymour. He had been wanted after pointing a firearm at a man and woman in Jennings County Thursday afternoon.

Watson said police located the vehicle that Helton was suspected of driving parked outside around 10 p.m. Friday. They also received information that he was inside at the residence.

Police then were able to evacuate the residence without Helton’s knowledge.

Helton left the home without incident and was taken into custody before being turned over to the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department.

Helton faces felony charges of intimidation and pointing a firearm and is being held at the Jennings County Jail.

The incident follows a similar one from Thursday after police said Helton fled to his residence in eastern Jackson County after the incident in Jennings County.

Jennings County Sheriff’s Department officers and the Indiana State Police SWAT team surrounded the residence for hours before discovering he was not in the home. Sheriff Rick Meyer assisted in that incident.

Before officers could arrive in that area where he pointed the firearm, Helton had left and gone to his home on County Road 1300E in Jackson County. County Road 1300E is the Jackson County line with Jennings County.

Deputies arriving at Helton’s home saw a vehicle matching the description of the one Helton had driven to the incident in Hayden, police said.
