Beck’s Mill will celebrate 211 years of milling Aug. 24 at the historic site, 4433 S. Beck’s Mill Road, Salem.

The mill opens at 11 a.m., and the Corydon Dulcimer Society will begin the celebration with the playing of folk music at 11:30 a.m.

Adult admission will be $2.11, and children 16 and under are admitted free with a paid adult admission.

Demonstrations include corn milling and blacksmithing similar to the way it was done in 1808, and craft vendors will be in the parking lot. Organizers are looking for craft and flea market vendors for the birthday party. Setup is free. Anyone interested in setting up may call Judy at 812-896-3447 after 5 p.m.

Mount Tabor Christian Church will provide a free hot dog meal, and birthday cake will be served to complete the day.

The mill will be open for tours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

George Beck first milled corn Aug. 22, 1808. The mill became a tourist attraction by a family tradition that was performed every year on the closest Saturday to the date of the first “grind.” It was tradition to drain the dam to clean it of debris.
