Above and beyond
A great big thumbs up to Indiana State Police Trooper Jonathan Cain. He came upon our daughter’s wreck on Interstate 65, and he stayed with her until we could get to her. He went above and beyond what he had to do to help. It’s not every day you get someone to take the time to help a young new driver the way he did. Thank you, ISP Trooper Cain.

Willing witness

Thumbs up to the person who witnessed the shooting Saturday night in Seymour that left one man injured and hospitalized at a Louisville hospital and a second in the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown on a charge of attempted murder. That witness played a key role in the Seymour Police Department’s efforts to arrest 39-year-old Cory Pollard of Seymour without putting themselves in danger, Police Chief Bill Abbott said. “We always talk about seeing something and saying something, and this was a perfect example of that,” Abbott said.
Rock’n Ready for school
Thumbs up to the individuals, businesses, organizations and churches in the community for donating more than 17,000 supplies for Jackson County United Way’s annual Rock’n Ready school supply distribution programs at Brownstown Central Middle School, Medora Community Schools and Seymour High School. The supplies were raised through the Stuff the Bus campaign at Walmart and through collection drop-off boxes. United Way also used funds raised from the annual Rock’n Run 5K to purchase additional items.
Distinguished young women
Thumbs up to Brownstown Central High School senior Zoe Fountain for being named the 2020 Jackson County Distinguished Young Woman on Saturday night after the local scholarship competition in the Brownstown Central High School auditorium. A related thumbs up to Emma Winks of Brownstown, who was named first-runner up; Seymour High School senior Sydney Wiesehan, who was named second runner-up; and Warren/Silver Spirit Award award winner Kaylee Branaman of Brownstown.
Helping out
Thumbs up to members of the Schneck Guild for raising $88,605 to donate to Schneck Medical Center for the new intensive care unit.
Bridging a gap
Thumbs up to those who helped the Friends of the Medora Covered Bridge and Area raise money to provide security at the bridge by attending the ninth annual Dinner on the Bridge on Saturday.
Milestone
Thumbs up to everyone who has contributed to the success of the Trinity High Resale Shop since it opened in 2005. The store recently hit a milestone of $1 million in donations made to Trinity Lutheran High School in Seymour.
