Unemployment rate falls to 2.4 percent

Jackson County’s unemployment rate fell to 2.4% in April from 2.5% percent in the same month a year ago, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development’s most recent labor force estimates.

In April, 555 county residents from a workforce of 22,909 were reportedly looking for work. In April 2018, 590 people from a workforce of 22,758 were looking for work.

The county’s unemployment rate in April of this year was a percentage point lower than the state’s 3.4% rate in April, while the nation’s unemployment rate was 3.6%.

Bartholomew and Dubois counties were tied for the lowest rates among the state’s 92 counties in April at 2.1%, while Howard County had the highest rate at 6.6%. Other counties in the region and their rates are Brown, 2.7%; Monroe 2.8%; Washington and Jennings 2.9%; Lawrence 3.2%; and Scott 3.3%.
