A 72-year-old was injured when his vehicle became pinned between a concrete barrier and a semitrailer, closing Interstate 65 for nearly two hours late Thursday, police report.

Armajeet Luthra of Louisville, Kentucky, was taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for treatment of minor injuries after the crash around 11 p.m. Thursday at the 54-mile-marker near Seymour.

The incident began when Luthra attempted to pass a 2019 Freightliner driven by James Radford, 32, of Stamps, Arkansas, in the southbound lanes of the interstate near the construction zone.

Radford’s trailer collided with Luthra’s 2014 Mercedes when the lanes shifted to the right at the construction zone, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, public information officer for the Indiana State Police Versailles Post. The shoulder of the road is eliminated in that area due to construction.

Luthra’s vehicle was pinned between the trailer and a concrete barrier, and Luthra was trapped inside until emergency personnel arrived.

Radford was not injured.

No citations have been issued, but the investigation into the crash is continuing, Wheeles said. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, police said.

Assisting at the scene were the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Columbus Police Department, Jackson County Emergency Medical Services, 31 Wrecker Service and C and C Towing.
