Over the years, the Brownstown Central, Seymour, and Trinity Lutheran golf teams had always competed against each other in separate dual matches.
Until Monday night.

Due to some recent rainouts, the three programs decided it would be best to all meet together for a tri-meet at Hickory Hills Golf Club last night.
In a Jackson County-only competition, the Owls won the meet by scoring 166 strokes, followed by Trinity (177) and the Braves (215).
SHS sophomore Owen Marshall earned medalist honors, carding a 3-over-par 38 strokes. Ethan Dippold shot 41, Tom Hoffmeier scored 43, Conner Hinton totaled 44 and Brady Jackson had 55 for the Owls.
Owls coach Jim Hoffman said his team is continuing to improve.
“I feel like we’ve been hitting the ball well,” Hoffman said. “Some of the kids at the bottom are bringing it up to where it should be. They’re getting more confidence, which I think has been a struggle for us.”
Seymour will host a match at Shadowood Golf Course tonight before gearing up for Monday’s Hoosier Hills Conference tournament at Sunrise Golf Course in Madison.
“We just want to get better every day,” Hoffman said. “That’s what we strive for. Any time you win, it’s a good thing, but we have a tough conference and sectional coming up.”
Jacob Keith was the low-scorer for Trinity, shooting 40, while senior teammate Mark Shoemaker scored 42 on the evening. Ryland Nierman (48), Josiah Foster (47), and Jacob Sabotin (49) rounded out the Cougars’ scorecard.
“We had some difficulty get up and down, and putting,” Trinity coach Greg Personett said. “We were striking the ball pretty decent, but I thought the course played tough even though it was in good shape. Overall, we’re still in good shape. We just need to buff up the edges and get cleaned up.”
Trinity hosts Switzerland County Friday at Shadowood.
Lucas VonDielingen and Liam Kreis led BCHS with 51s. Caden Clodfelder shot 56, Colton Hallow came in with a 57 and Cooper Wolka totaled 62 for the Braves.
“My No. 1 and No. 2 scored pretty well today,” Braves coach Brandon Allman said. “Lucas was a few shots higher than his average, but Liam Kreis shot a career-low. We’re just putting it all together. Being young, and inexperienced, there has been a lot of fluctuation in the scores.”
Allman said he’s hoping for his team to drop more strokes at the Mid-Southern Conference tournament at Wooded View Golf Course, in Clarksville, Saturday.
“We just need to keep improving every day,” he said. “We need to try and get under 200 (on nine holes) by the end of the season. There’s a lot of work to do, but I think we can get there.”
All three coaches said they liked the competition, and wouldn’t be opposed to having a tri-meet again in the future.
The three teams will all meet again in the sectional June 3 at Bloomington Country Club.
