Cereal collectors

Thumbs-up to the students at St. John’s Lutheran School Sauers who recently collected 738 boxes of cereal for Anchor House Family Assistance Center and Pantry in Seymour.

Thumbs-up to Emerson Elementary School students who spent two weeks raising $10,169.12 for the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. A special thumbs-up goes to Ariel Seabolt ($554), Arabella Smith ($525) and Derek Haas ($300) for raising the most money and other students who raised at least $100: Emmalyn Sipes, Chase Sipes, Gabe Seabolt, Ethan Seabolt, Alyssa Haas, Cash McNeely, Delaney Hamm, Bailey Bohall, Mollee Bohall, Miriam Boyd, Landon Robinson, Avery Williams, Lottie Beatty, Sophia Quillen, Alyssa Ellington, Nola Grube, Eli Bukowski, Cameron Senn, Carter Hallett, Cheyenne Hallett, Brady Franklin, Mallory Applegate, Valerie McIntosh, Lauren Schepman, Bryson Birch, Mason Patterson, Collin Patterson, Zoe Wischmeier and Rory Bevers. A related thumbs-up goes to all the friends, neighbors and others who contributed to the fundraiser.

Top nurseryman

Thumbs-up to Grant Schneider who recently received the Nurseryman of the Year from the Indiana Nursery and Landscape Association. Although the award was given to Schneider, the credit goes to the staff of the nursery in helping him make the nursery, which opened in 1949, a success this past year.

Conference champion

Thumbs-up to Seymour senior Devin Ramsey for winning his third Hoosier Hills Conference crown in diving with a score of 516.35 on Jan. 26 at Seymour. Ramsey set two new standards in the process, beating the conference record of 507.02 and the pool diving record of 458.65. Trevor Layne received honorable mention honors for finishing second in the 100 breaststroke at 1 minute, 3.04 seconds.

Fun-raising

Thumbs-up to those who have contributed more than $209,000 for the Jackson County Dog Shelter. Although construction of the shelter has begun behind the jail in Brownstown, it will take another $66,000 to complete the project. The next chance to help out will be from 6 to 11 p.m. March 2 during the fourth annual Fur Ball at Pewter Hall, 850 W. Sweet St., Brownstown.
