Thumbs-up to the Seymour Middle School August Students/Teachers of the Month. They are Taiyo Murishage, Lucas Jablonski, Riley Dobbins, A.J. York, Yvette Platas Gallegos, Rossana West, Ekaterina Cox and Caleb Salas and teacher Robin Ramp. A similar thumbs-up to the Brownstown Students of the Month for August. They are senior Robbie Branaman, eighth-grader Mariah Cobb and first-grader Jake Hall.
Staying on course
Thumbs-up to the five members of the Seymour girls golf team, Bridget Marshall, Laken Waskom, Madeleine Wisler, Kara Rice and Lexi York, along with the two members of the Brownstown squad, Ashlyn Fox and KaCee Collins, who advanced to the Washington Regional. The Owls advanced by finishing second in the Sept. 15 sectional at Otis Park Golf Course at Bedford. Regional play will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Country Oaks Golf Club in Montgomery.
Historic donation
Thumbs-up to James R. Bowman of Indianapolis for donating a fully restored 1943 Huffman U.S. Army bicycle to the Freeman Army Airfield Museum at Freeman Municipal Airport on Seymour’s southwest side. Freeman Field served as training base for pilots to learn how to fly twin-engine bombers and other multiple-engine aircraft during World War II.
Raising the bar
Thumbs-up to Seymour High School senior Daniel Hartman, who netted a hat trick Sept. 13 to break the school record for goals in a career at Seymour while also helping the Owls to a 5-0 Hoosier Hills Conference win over Madison. All three of Hartman’s goals, which gives him 57 goals, came in the second half, as he passed former SHS standout Nick Eddy, who scored 56 goals for the Owls from 2001 to 2004. Hartman added another goal to his career total Tuesday night at Jennings County.
Supplying support
Thumbs-up to the more than 140 Cummins Inc. employees who participated in the diesel engine maker’s sixth annual Seymour Community Work Day. Together, 21 teams team of volunteers from the company worked at 32 sites throughout the south central Indiana completing projects designed to make the community better. The event also is supported Jackson County United Way.
Unneeded
Thumbs-down to anyone who would hit a pedestrian or another vehicle and then leave the scene without trying to help anyone that is hurt or at least get them help.
