In a key Mid-Southern Conference match up,the visitors came out on top.

Silver Creek swept the double spots and took two of three singles positions to come away with a 4-1 win against host Brownstown Central on Monday.

The Braves (1-1, 1-1 MSC) had a lone win at No. 2 singles.

Olivia Hackman won the first set against Silver Creek’s Riley Ramsey 7-5 before Ramsey was forced to retire due to injury.

At No. 1 singles, the Braves’ Laken Reynolds dropped the first set 6-1 before building a 4-1 lead against Anna Graves in the second set.

Graves stormed back to take the next five games, and the match.

The Dragons’ Faith Wetzel took the No. 3 singles spot over Riley Roberts 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 singles

Both Brownstown Central doubles teams struggled.

Carly Brown and Rachel Adkins fell to Cassandra Baumgart and Chloie Yost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles while Claudia Sibrel and Sydney Cockerham lost to Mady Hawkins and Madison Vallin 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2.

“We came out flat,” Braves coach Erik Stangland said. “We lost the first game in every match we had, and we needed to fight back. We need to come into (matches) a little more ready. We had a lot of standing and watching instead of moving. Everyone needs to move more and prepare better for their shots.”

While there are just a few outdoor practices, and two matches, in the books, Stangland wants to see the team make improvements fast.

“We’re looking at the end of April to see where we are,” Stangland said. “We need to do everything we can to get going by then. We have a lot to do, and not a lot of time to do it in.”

Brownstown will travel to Henryville tonight for a nonconference match.

“We had some bright spots, some good moments, we just couldn’t get everyone going at the same time,” Stangland said. “I’m proud of the girls. They stuck with it. Hopefully we can get more going (tonight).”
