A reunion of District 10 of Indiana Rural Youth/Young Adults former members will be from 2 to 6 p.m. March 17 at Girls Inc. of Jackson County, 956 N. O’Brien St., Seymour.

Those attending are asked to bring sandwiches, finger foods and desserts for eating about 4 p.m. Bottled water, utensils, plates, etc. will be provided.

Plan to visit and reminisce about your former rural youth days and trips. In addition, bring old scrapbooks, pictures or anything about rural youth.

District 10 includes Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Dearborn, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott and Switzerland counties, but all Indiana Rural Youth former members are welcome to attend. Jackson County Rural Youth was still meeting in the mid-1980s.

Sponsored by Indiana Farm Bureau Inc. and Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service, Rural Youth/Young Adults was active from 1939-89. It was made up of single adults between the ages of 18 and 28. The three broad aims of the organization were education, recreation and community service.

Its peak membership occurred in the 1950s and 1960s when it boasted 6,000 members statewide. At one time, there was a Rural Youth/Young Adult club in each county in Indiana. Some clubs functioned continuously from the beginning. Others were disbanded and reorganized at later dates.

The biennial statewide reunion will be Sept. 22 at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Franklin.
