Sabotin advances to state
COLUMBUS
Trinity Lutheran sophomore Rachel Sabotin will make her second consecutive trip to state.

Sabotin, the Cougars’ lone competitor, swam a sectional-record 1-minute, 52.46-seconds in winning the 200-yard freestyle and came back to take the 500 freestyle in 4:59.25, both personal bests and school records at the Columbus North Sectional on Saturday.
“I was happy with my times,” Sabotin said. “This week was kind of just about qualifying for state, and then next week will be more focused on dropping time and getting where I need to be.”
Sabotin will swim in the state preliminaries Friday at IUPUI’s Natatorium with the hopes of making Saturday’s finals.

Owls top Lions
SALEM
Ty McCory sank seven total 3-pointers to propel Seymour to a 63-56 victory at Salem on Saturday.
McCory got a trey in every quarter, including hitting two threes in the each of the first, third and fourth quarters. He led the Owls with 26 points.
The Owls (8-8) constructed a 22-9 lead in the first quarter, with Alan Perry scoring seven points and McCory netting eight.
Salem (15-4) closed its deficit in the second quarter, but trailed the Owls 32-26 at the break.
The Owls tacked on 21 more points in the third quarter to lead 53-43 going into the final eight minutes of play.
Despite being outscored 16-10 in the fourth quarter, the Owls were able to hold on for the victory.
The Owls will play a non-conference match up at Jennings County on Tuesday.
Braves pick up MSC win
CLARKSSVILLE
Brownstown Central survived a Mid-Southern Conference game at Clarksville on Saturday, picking up a 53-51 win.
The Braves built a 19-8 lead by the end of the first quarter, but tallied just three points in the second.
At the break, the teams were tied at 22.
Brownstown re-found its offense out of the break, adding 19 points to take the lead back at 41-36.
Clarksville outscored the Braves 15-12 in the fourth quarter, but fell short of a comeback.
Cameron Luedeman led the Braves with 17 points and Michael Boshears scored 16.
Brownstown will host Trinity Lutheran on Tuesday.
Cougars beat Mustangs
Trinity Lutheran held New Washington to two points in the third quarter in a 67-57 win at the Bollinger Athletic Complex on Saturday.
The Cougars (6-12) trailed 36-31 at halftime before outscoring the Mustangs 14-2 in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Cougars tacked on 22 more points to seal the win.
AJ Goecker led the Cougars with 19 points, Josh Rowe scored 15 and Jack Marksberry chipped in 13.
Tigers fall to Lancers
EDINBURGH
Edinburgh halted Crothersville’s five game winning streak by edging the Tigers 50-47 on Saturday.
The teams were tied at 29 at half before the Lancers held the Tigers to eight points in the third quarter.
Both teams scored 10 points in the final eight minutes of play.
Dylan Wilson topped the Cougars’ scoring with 16 points while Josh Thomas and Logan Brewer each scored 12.
The Tigers (11-4) will host South Decatur on Tuesday.
Girls basketball
Bedford North Lawrence, Salem wins sectionals
Jorie Allen scored a basket with 2.5 seconds remaining in the second overtime to help Bedford North Lawrence defeat Jeffersonville 57-55 in the championship game of the Seymour Class 4A Sectional.
The score was tied at 39 at the end of regulation and at 49 at the end of the first overtime.
Allen scored 18 points for the Stars (21-4), who have beaten Jeff 11 straight times. Bedford advances to the Columbus North Regional where it will play Columbus East on Saturday.
Nan Garcia was the high scorer for Jeff (20-6) with 16 points.
Salem won the Class 3A Salem Sectional with a 42-36 win over Scottsburg.
Salem (22-4) will play in the Charlestown Regional on Saturday.
