County jobless rate falls below 3 percent

Jackson County’s unemployment rate fell 0.1 of a percent to 2.9 percent in November compared to October, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development’s latest report.

The county’s rate also was lower than the state’s 3.4 percent unemployment rate in November and the nation’s unemployment rate of 3.9 percent that month.

November’s rate also was 0.4 percent lower than county’s rate of 3.3 percent in November of 2016, when 722 people reported being unemployed.

The number of people who reported they were looking for work in November of this year was 632, according to the report.

Dubois County had the lowest unemployment rate in November at 2.4 percent, while Fayette County had the highest at 4.9 percent.

Jackson County had the 73rd lowest rate in the state.

Other area counties, their rankings and ratesĀ  are Bartholomew, 89th, 2.5 percent; Brown, 62, 3.0 percent; Washington, 3.5, 41st; Monroe, 31st, 3.6 percent; Jennings, 26th, 3.7 percent; and Lawrence, eighth, 4.2 percent.
