Tigers earn first win
COLUMBUS
Crothersville pounded 15 hits in a 18-8, six-inning win at Columbus Christian on Monday.
The victory snapped a nine-game skid for the Tigers (1-9), while also marking their first win of the season.
Crothersville led 7-4 after three innings before amassing nine runs in the four.
Scoring a pair of runs in the sixth, while limiting Columbus to one, the Tigers won by run-rule.
Jesse Fink collected five hits, including two doubles, with four RBIs to lead the Tigers.
Logan Collins also had two hits and finished with four RBIs.
Nine different Tigers finished with at least one hit.
Logan Brewer earned the win on the mound, pitching three innings with four strikeouts, no walks, five hits and four earned runs.
Columbus Christian finished with 12 total hits and four errors. Crothersville had one error.
Cougars get beat
SCOTTSBURG
Trinity Lutheran’s baseball team dropped a game 8-1 behind quiet bats at Scottsburg on Tuesday.
The Cougars were only able to tally three hits and one run through seven innings.
The Warriors were able to jump to a quick start by scoring one run in the first inning and three runs in both the third and fourth innings. They were able to add another run in the fourth inning.
The Cougars fell to 5-6 on the year and host Indianapolis Lutheran on Saturday.
SOFTBALL
Highlanders top Owls
Despite a late rally in the fifth inning, Seymour had its nine-game winning streak halted by Floyd Central in a 7-4 loss Tuesday.
The Highlanders scored one run in each the first, second and third innings while holding the Owls (9-2) scoreless.
After adding two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Owls’ offense came alive.
Rachel Kaufman and Lo Schmidt each had two-run singles to cut the Owls’ deficit to 5-4.
However, the Highalnders responded with two more runs in the sixth inning before holding on for the win.
Floyd outhit Seymour 14-6 in the game.
Kaufman was dealt the loss in the circle for the Owls.
Seymour will host Castle and Roncalli — both ranked in the top-10 for Class 4A — on Saturday.
Braves beat Generals
CLARKSVILLE
Brownstown Central’s defense held strong in a 12-1 Mid-Southern Conference victory at Clarksville on Tuesday.
The Braves (8-8) led 4-1 after three innings before adding one in the fifth and busting it open with four scores in the sixth. BC put on the finishing touches with three more runs in the seventh inning.
Claire Poulton had four hits — including a pair of doubles — with three RBI and four scored runs for the Braves.
Jami Bryant was the winner pitcher with four hits, six strikeouts, no walks and no earned runs.
The Braves outhit the Generals 13-4 in the game.
Brownstown will travel to Corydon Central on Thursday for another MSC game.
Cougars win marathon game
CAMPBELLSBURG
Trinity Lutheran outlasted West Washington to win 6-5 in 14-inning marathon Tuesday evening.
Both teams finished the seventh inning with two runs.
Trinity was able to score three in the eighth, but the Senators answered back with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Both teams were scoreless from the ninth inning until the 14th, when the Cougars were able to score.
Sophia Stahl scored on a single from Kirsten Hoene in the top of the 14th inning to give the Cougars a go-ahead run heading in the bottom of the inning.
Trinity Lutheran pitcher Hannah Deaton then closed out the game, only allowing one runner to reach base in the final inning.
Trinity (8-4) plays at Springs Valley on Friday.
BOYS GOLF
Cougars win tri meet
EDINBURGH
Trinity Lutheran bested Edinburgh and Beech Grove in a tri meet at Timbergate Golf Course on Thursday.
The Cougars shot 159 followed by the home team’s 211 and BG’s 225.
Jonathan Keith led Trinity with a two-over par 38.
Jacob Keith shot 39, Cory Stuckwisch carded 40, Skyler Stahl scored 42, Chad Stuckwisch totaled 43 and Drew Royalty had 46 in other Cougars scoring.
Medora’s Hunter Browning finished with a 42 on the afternoon.
