A Jackson County man and Jennings County women were injured in a head-on collision late Christmas Eve in North Vernon.

William Lane, 27, Seymour, was driving west on U.S. 50 in the area of Showers Drive when he crossed the center lane and collided with Brittany Engelking, 19, of Scipio at about 11:51 p.m., according to a North Vernon Police Department news release.

Lane, who was trapped in his vehicle for about an hour, was taken to the emergency room at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon. He was later sent to an Indianapolis hospital for further treatments, the North Vernon Police Department said. His condition was not available Sunday.

Engelking also transported to the St. Vincent Jennings emergency room with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

A witness, who was following Lane, told police he saw Lane travel left of center a couple times and also witnessed him cross the center line at the time of the accident, police said.

North Vernon Police Department Officers Anthony Bagby and Wes Thayer responded to the wreck, which remains under investigation.
