Pioneer applications due soon

Applications for anyone wishing to become a member of the Jackson County Pioneer Society this year are due Oct. 28.

This year’s new members will be inducted during the annual Jackson County History Center dinner at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Woodlawn Family Centre, 311 Holiday Square Road, Seymour.

Inductees will receive an 8½-by-11-inch certificate suitable for framing.

To be a part of the society, applicants must be descended from a resident in any one of four categories: First Families (1820 and before), Founders (1821-1850), Settlers (1851-1880) and Builders (1881-1910).

Applications may be picked up at the Jackson County History Center genealogical library, 105 N. Sugar St., Browns-town. Volunteers are available to help you with your research. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Call the library at 812-358-2118.

Doors for the annual pioneer dinner will open at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 10, with entertainment of old-time music provided by Larry Wayt and Friends. Tickets are $25 each and available at the history center or from any member. Reservations are required and due by Nov. 2.
