Nerves abound as 4-H’ers take to arena

Happy Show Day, everyone.

Well, today is the big day for all 4-H swine members.

Today, we get our pigs looking the best we can, get our adrenaline rushing in the makeup ring and show off all of our hard work in the arena.

Today, we get the final relief that all of our hard work pays off.

Being pork princess, I have to help pass out ribbons to all the winners in each class. Also, trophies to grand champion barrow and gilt. Even though this will be my seventh year showing, I still get really nervous. But the good nervous. Tomorrow, I will let you know how my sister and I did and also who won grand champion barrow and gilt.

Yesterday, I weighed in my pigs, and I attended my sister’s spelling bee as she represented Cortland Elementary. She did very well. I was so proud of her.

On Sunday night, I had the chance to attend the annual fair queen pageant. There were 17 beautiful ladies out there running for the face of the fair. I want to extend a huge congratulations to Kaitlin McPike for being crowned the 2016 Jackson County Fair queen. And also, congratulations to her court, first runner-up Brooke Plummer, second runner-up Lydia Pottschmidt and Miss Congeniality Elizabeth Lee. Congratulations again, ladies.

Please don’t hesitate to stop and say “hi” if you see me.

I love hearing your comments. I also would like to ask if fairgoers could keep the swine barn clear today as 4-H’ers move their pigs to and from the show arena because it gets quite hectic if we are still going through there.

Other than that, have a safe and wonderful day, everyone.
