Woman without pants up a tree

Police arrested a partially-clad woman Wednesday morning after she was found stuck in a tree on the city’s northwest side.

Amanda D. Woods, 36, of Seymour faces a Level 6 felony charge of public nudity and two other charges related to her arrest after she was pulled from the tree.

The incident began when police received a report of a woman in a tree yelling for help at Seventh Street and East Park Drive.

Cpl. Jason Alberring and other officers along with fire and medical personnel responded to the report.

When they arrived, they found Woods was up in a tree and wearing only a shirt, Seymour Police Chief Bill Abbott said.

“She had her foot stuck in the fork of the tree and had fell back and was holding herself in place,” Abbott said.

The incident occurred outside the home of the woman’s boyfriend in the 600 block of East Drive. The boyfriend told police he didn’t know she was there, Abbott said.

Firefighters brought out a ladder and freed Woods’ foot. After she started to come down, she apparently changed her mind and started going back up the tree, Abbott said.

At that point, an officer grabbed her foot, and police were able to pull her out of the tree, he said.

Woods was taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, but she declined treatment. However, she was given scrubs to wear.

After Alberring placed her in the backseat of his vehicle and was walking around it to get into the driver’s seat, she got out, Abbott said. She was caught a short time later by police and taken to the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown.

Woods also faces charges of resisting law enforcement-fleeing and attempted escape, Abbott said. She was being held without bond Wednesday morning pending her initial hearing.
