Hospitable

Thumbs-up to Seymour residents Martha McIntire and Kathy Mead for being recognized for their work with Seymour’s Oktoberfest with Hoosier Hospitality Awards by Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann during a ceremony at the Indiana State Fair. Mead and McIntire retired from the festival board after the 2014 festival, the 42nd. McIntire spent 29 years on the board, and Mead served on the board for 27 years. The awards are presented to those whose have provided a high level of service in tourism-related jobs at hotels, restaurants, attractions and other destinations.Musical saluteThumbs-up to Crothersville High School student Micah Cox for coming up with the idea of starting a music appreciation club at the school after the band and choir programs were eliminated because of a lack of funding at the end of the 2014-15 school year. The purpose of the club is to fill that void and provide students with an opportunity to learn and develop their musical talents. A related thumbs-up go to Jeanette Yoder, who teaches Spanish and special education at the school. She agreed to stay an hour after school once a week to oversee the club.

Big draws

Thumbs-up to the organizers and volunteers who made the fourth annual Scoop the Loop, the 13th annual Dog Days Dog Show and the fifth annual Pig in the Park successful events Aug. 22. The three events held on the same day each year draw a lot of people to the city and have become quite popular.

Top dogs

A related thumbs-up to the two dozen dog lovers who recently took their canine friends to compete in the 13th annual Dog Days Dog Show in Seymour. The event is sponsored by the Humane Society of Jackson County as a way to raise money for operations of the society’s shelter at Freeman Field. It also gives dogs and their owners to get out and have a little fun with others one time a year.

Not my street

Thumbs-down to the lady who put my neighborhood down. I live on East Third Street in a beautiful old colorful Victorian. It is immaculate and so is the yard. There are some trash bins out, (mine included). I keep mine out so people won’t park in front of my daycare when visiting neighbors. It is not dirty on my block of Third Street and certainly does not smell. I keep my home and yard very clean and nice. Yes, there are some horrible trashy streets in this town but mine is not one of them.Pam Bechelli, Seymour
