BROWNSTOWN — The Lady Braves celebrated their golf season on Tuesday night, reflecting on their regional qualifying season. Improving from the beginning to end their season on a high note.
Head Coach Brandon Allman spoke on the season for the Lady Braves.
“This season was filled with challenges, growth, and unforgettable moments. From our early practices to the final tournaments, each girl showed incredible dedication, sportsmanship, and improvement in every aspect,” Allman said.
He thanked some girls for trying out the sport and allowing for a full team during the high school season.
“First, we didn’t even know if we would have a team to start the season, so very thankful that Claire, Mairi, Kinsley, and Kayleigh decided to come on board and give golf a shot,” he said. “I thought we were going to be in for a long season after last year, but my three returning girls really showed some dedication in the summer and improved immensely. You could say we definitely overachieved.”
The team began the season well over 400 strokes as a team, before finishing third in sectionals and shooting a season low at County Oaks Golf Course in Washington for regionals.
“We went from 430 to start the season on a golf course we were pretty familiar with to shoot our season low of 399 at the regional, so we were definitely playing some of our best golf at the end of the year,” Allman said. “Of course, that is always a goal. My top three girls (Jayda, Abby, and Khloe), improved more as a unit than I could have imagined. They almost dropped an average of 10 shots from a year ago at sectional and almost the same from their 18 hole averages a year ago. My other four girls really had nowhere to go but to get better. They were basically starting from scratch.”
He spoke on the improvement from his newer girls during the year. Allman mentioned that he enjoyed their willingness to get better.
“As a coach, it is a good thing to see girls frustrated with themselves because they have the determination to get better, and our girls had that,” Allman said. “Not only were they able to improve their golf game, but they grew mentally as a team and individually. Their knowledge and understanding of the game greatly enhanced.”
He spoke on his two seniors in Abby Schroer and Jayda Clodfelder, who have both been monumental for the team in their success over the past few years
“My two seniors were absolute rockstars for us this season,” Allman said. “They were leaders in every sense of the way. They made my job easier by helping the younger girls know what to expect and took care of the little things for me. I could also arguably say that both have improved over the course of four years as much as any other golfers I have ever coached.”
Schroer and Clodfelder made multiple regional trips with the team in their careers and were selected to the Mid-Southern Conference team this season. Both girls will graduate in the upcoming spring.
The team brings back Lingenfelter, Claire Brelage, Mairi Shaw, Kayleigh Jernigan, and Kinsley Schroeder into 2025.
