Library board of trustees approves 2025 budget

The Jackson County Public Library Board of Trustees approved the 2025 budget at its regular meeting at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, in the Seymour Library conference room.

The library’s 2025 operating fund budget is $3,134,853. The regular meeting was preceded by a 4:15 p.m. executive session to discuss personnel.

During the meeting, the board approved staff changes; 2025 closing and board meeting dates; health, dental, vision and life insurance renewal with SIHO and Delta Dental starting Dec. 1; changes to the Property Building Use Policy; and the Seymour Park and Recreation use of the Seymour Library parking lot for parade lineup (if needed) after 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21.

Changes to the meeting spaces policy were tabled to the November meeting.

Board Member Bonnye Good gave an update on the progress of the Indiana State Library’s Public Library Definition Committee. The board also heard a report from Circulation Assistant Jordann Malone who told the board about her job over the past 10 years that includes mending books and hosting the Fantastic Fiction book discussion group on the third Friday of each month.

Library board President Dan Davis appointed Eunice Lacey, Jaime McRoy and Curt Schleibaum to the nominating committee.

Committee Chairman Lacey will bring a slate of officers to the November meeting for a vote at the December meeting. New officers would start their positions in January. The next library board meeting is at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at the Seymour Library.
