Shaun Gasaway, 45, of Brownstown was arrested for burglary on Wednesday, Oct. 23, and at 9:48 a.m. to the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown.

The charge stems from an investigation that started after Jackson County Officer Isaiah Thomas responded to a residence at 8600 N. County Road 200W in reference to the theft of an acetylene torch set from a barn. That theft was reported at approximately 7:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20.

The complainant advised Thomas the set was worth $1,500 to $2,000 and was taken during the daytime on Sunday, according to a news release from Jackson County Sheriff Rick Meyer.

On Wednesday, the sheriff’s department received information of a possible suspect identified as Gasaway. County officers and along with officers with Brownstown Police Department responded later to the area of West Bridge Street in Brownstown, where they located Gasaway and arrested.

The acetylene torch set was located and collected at an address on Chestnut Street in Seymour.

The investigation is ongoing and more arrests could follow.

Thomas was assisted by Meyer, Chief Deputy Dustin Steward, Lt. Adam Nicholson and county detectives Jesse Hutchinson, J.L. McElfresh and Clint Burcham, and Brownstown Detective Jac Sanders.
