NEW ALBANY — The Lady Owls kicked off their postseason journey; facing off with the fifth-ranked Class 4A Highlanders on Thursday night at New Albany High School.

Seymour battled, executed and fought their hearts out, but fell to Floyd Central in three sets, ending their season.

The Owls almost stole the first set from the Highlanders, tying it at 23 after a back-and-forth affair. Floyd Central won the set 25-23, before rolling in the second set 25-17. The Highlanders then won the third set 25-21, advancing to the sectional semifinal.

Seymour head coach Angie Lucas spoke about the outcome.

“Floyd is a very good team. I hated that we weren’t able to finish that first set,” Lucas said. “I would have really liked to see what would have happened if we were able to put that pressure on them. The fight was there, the determination was there, these girls really wanted to win. We just did not execute well enough as much as we needed to come out on top.”

Senior Greer Henry led the team with 11 kills on 44-46 in attacks. Junior Anna Fish led the team in assists with 24 and went 9-9 in attacks with four kills.

Both athletes spoke about the outcome with Floyd Central.

“They are always a good team and it’s always a highly competitive game against us,” Fish said. “I think on our side we missed a lot of serves and we didn’t run our offense very well. They’re a solid team, but we fought for it.”

Henry played her last game of high school volleyball and spoke about that experience.

“They’re a great team and they put a lot of pressure on us,” Henry said. “We executed some of our game plans well and some of them we didn’t. We fought hard throughout the first set; I thought if we could’ve grabbed that it might have been a different outcome. We fought hard and they’re a good team, so I’m proud of it.”

The Owls finished the season with a 17-13 overall record.

Coach Lucas spoke about the 2024-25 season for the team.

“It’s been a really good season,” Lucas said. “These kids worked hard every day in practice and never complained. They are coachable and they listen to what we ask them to do. They are a fun group of kids to coach, and I have genuinely enjoyed it.”

Fish spoke on her junior season at Seymour.

“We definitely had some ups-and-downs, but I’m proud of the way that we finished,” she said.

Henry was able to enjoy her final season of high school volleyball.

“It was good, I love my teammates,” Henry said. “We were like family, and I genuinely love how close we have been as a team. I had a great season with all of them.”

Henry is joined by Claire Urbanski, Emerson Johnson, Kenzie Gagner and Abby Followed as the seniors graduating in next spring.

Lucas spoke about her group of seniors, who she said the team will miss greatly.

“The seniors mean a lot to us,” Lucas said. “They’re the backbone of our program and I hated that we couldn’t get a sectional win for them, because they are such great and high character kids.”

Fish believes the team has a lot to fix before the beginning of next season.

“We have a lot of things to work on,” Fish said. “Our seniors were very impactful players, and we will have to work hard to get some of that back. We do have some new people coming in that we think can help us, but we will have to keep working till next season.”

Floyd Central advances to the sectional semifinal on Saturday morning, facing Bedford North Lawrence.
