Cletus C. Mackey, Jr., 95, of Seymour passed away in his sleep at his Seymour home October 6, 2024. Born in Seymour on April 20, 1929, he was the only child of the late Cletus C. Mackey Sr. and Mildred (Nichter) Mackey.

Cletus grew up in Seymour, attended St. Ambrose Catholic Grade School, and graduated from Shields High School in 1947. He studied at Butler University for a short time before completing his education at Seymour Business College. In 1951 he was drafted into the Army during the Korean conflict and was stationed at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, California. He attained the rank of corporal. During his time in California, he met Luella Jenkins of Los Angeles through mutual friends. When his service ended in 1953, he and Luella moved to Seymour and they were married October 10, 1953 at St. Ambrose Church by the Reverend John Minta. Cletus remained a devoted member of St. Ambrose Parish, serving at various times as PTO president, lector, minister of the Eucharist, altar server, and sacristan. He worked at Steinwedel &Sons Men’s Clothing Store prior to and after his service in the Army, at Central Pharmical Company for more than 25 years, and at Deputy Electronics until he retired in 1991. He was an avid bicycle rider and spent much of his free time riding around town for fresh air and exercise.

Cletus is survived by his wife of nearly 71 years, Luella; three sons, William C. (Janice) Mackey, Philip J. (Susan) Mackey, and Thomas F. Mackey; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Scott) Lambrecht and J.T. (Marty) Mackey; and two great grandchildren, Brody and Lucas Lambrecht.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, William M. Mackey.

A funeral Mass for Cletus will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour, Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Father Dan Staublin and Deacon Mike East will officiate. Friends may call at Voss and Sons Funeral Home, 316 North Chestnut Street, on Wednesday, October 16, beginning at 4:45 p.m. with a Rosary service, with visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friends may also call at the Church on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the Mass begins. Cletus will be laid to rest immediately following at Riverview Cemetery.
