A 30-year-old Jackson County woman faces felony drug and neglect charges related to a search of an apartment late Monday in Seymour, police report.

Brooklyn Paige Maxie was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday on preliminary charges of possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and neglect of a dependent.

According to a news release from Seymour Police Department, in the late hours of Monday, Oct. 7, patrol and interdiction officers responded to an apartment in the 200 block of Marley Lane to follow up on drug tips and conduct a stop and knock investigation.

When they arrived, they spoke with Maxie, police said.

A 12-year-old juvenile also was present.

While speaking with officers, Maxie admitted to having marijuana inside the residence and granted consent for them to go in to retrieve it.

Maxie, however, rescinded her consent and the investigation was immediately paused. Officers then applied for and were granted a Jackson Circuit Court warrant for the apartment.

Once the warrant was obtained, officers conducted a search of the apartment and subsequently located evidence which included methamphetamine, cocaine, scales, baggies, marijuana and other items of paraphernalia.

The Jackson County Department of Child Services also was contacted.

All parties herein depicted or described are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
