A Seymour woman was flown to Indianapolis on Tuesday night after sustaining injuries from being struck by a train near O’Brien Street.

Terre Newport, 62, was flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after sustaining injuries to the head, right arm and right leg, according to a news release from Lt. C.J. Foster with Seymour Police Department.

Officers with the Seymour Police Department responded to the area of O’Brien Street at approximately 10:47 p.m. and medical care was provided by medical personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services and Seymour Fire Department, and police officers.

According to information provided by the train conductor, Newport was lying on the tracks and the train’s horn was used to alert her. Newport rose up and then laid back down, Foster said.

Once Newport realized the train was coming, she stood up and attempted to move out of the way, eventually being struck by the locomotive, he said.

At this time, it is not known why Newport was on the tracks and her conditions was not known at the time of the news release Wednesday afternoon, Foster said.
