CROTHERSVILLE — It was an evening filled with volleyball in Crothersville on Monday night, hosting the South Decatur Cougars at CHS.

The Cougars (12-2) came in winning 10 of their last 11 games, while the Lady Tigers (2-7) were looking to bounce back after two straight losses.

South Decatur won the match over Crothersville, 25-15, 25-8, and 25-17. The Cougars jumped out to an early advantage in the first set.

Crothersville made it 11-6 before the game had to be stopped.

South Decatur returned a serve, before the Tigers hit the ball in the air, hitting one of the gymnasium lights, a few shards of glass fell from the busted light, stopping the game for a couple of minutes before everything was cleared.

The game was then resumed in the Auxiliary Gym after the middle school match with Lanesville, as South Decatur came away with the varsity victory.

Tigers Head Coach Kristy Wright spoke about the performance after the game.

“South Decatur is the best team that we have played so far this year,” Wright said. “They are a very good all-around volleyball team. I was very proud of our girls for being able to get at least a hand on some of the blocks as well as being able to dig some of their hard hits.”

Brooklyn Bottorff led the team with 3 kills, while Grace Smith and Zoey Prince were perfect in their serves attempts, not making any errors throughout.

We are a month away from the end of the volleyball regular season. Coach Wright spoke about what she wants to see from the team during that time.

“We have had great games serving well and then another game that we passed well and another game that we hit well,” Wright said. “What I would like to do this final month of the season it just put all of those skills together so that we can prove to ourselves that we can be competitive.”

Wright has found positives out of this tough stretch for the Tigers.

“We’ve been working hard at practice and getting better with our passing skills and are just overall team communication,” she said. “I’m proud of my girls for showing progress and those. As well as never giving up.”

Crothersville will travel to South Central for a match tomorrow at 6 p.m.

In the JV game, South Decatur started out strong with an early lead, but Crothersville made it interesting at 8-5.

The Cougars answered in their own way, eventually taking a 15-7 lead over the Tigers. South Decatur would not stop their run, eventually ending the set at 25-9

The Tigers kicked off second set with a kill. After a battle between both teams, South Decatur held a slight 11-7 lead in the second set.

Some miscommunications forced Crothersville to call a timeout, trailing 15-7, before South Decatur rolled, winning the second set by the score of 25-14.

Crothersville made a strong effort but could not make a comeback.

The Tigers also faced Rock Creek Academy on Tuesday, dropping that match to the Lions, 25-22, 26-24, and 25-18.
