Mlle. Peres finds Seymour’s schools quite different, but oh! So nice!

Petite Mademoiselle Helene Marie Louis Francoise Peres, of Tabres, France, who is somewhat smaller than her name, is finding everything in this strange new city of Seymour exciting and “so very nice.”

Her brown eyes sparkling, Mille. Peres explains in fluent English enhance by a French accent that many things here are different from her native France, but she hastens to reassure her hearers that the variations are all nice ones.

Mlle. Peres, whose last name is pronounced “pay-ress,” with the accent on the last syllable, and whose first name is pronounced “hay-lenn,” with the last syllable accented, began her duties as teacher of beginning French in Shields High School Thursday morning, as an exchange teacher for Miss Elizabeth Feaster, who will teach this year in the Lycee de Jeunes Filles in Tarbes, near the Spanish border.

Brownstown a great place to live, work

Delivering The Tribune at the early age of 7 taught John Francis Disque a lot about work.

“I had to split the route with my older brother, because you had to be 8 then to have a route.”

That one newspaper route turned into yard mowing jobs, a morning route for The Indianapolis Star and 40 hour weeks during high school at Nolting’s grocery store in Brownstown.
