MEDORA — The Medora Community School Corp. is continuing their focus to help their students be responsible, empathetic and determined this school year.

During Monday night’s board of school trustees meeting, the August R.E.D. Hornets of the Month were honored.

Those honored were junior Hayden Adams, eighth-grader Annabella Tillberry and sixth-grader Ayden Edwards.

Principal Kara Hunt introduced the honorees to trustees and read statements from their teachers.

Adams’ teachers praised him for his curious nature and engagement with class material.

Math teacher Kyle Derheimer wrote, “Hayden is a very inquisitive young man. We have had some very interesting conversations regarding the Titanic and nuclear power before class.”

JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) teacher Shannon Hunsucker said Adams is a joy to have in class because he always has a positive attitude, engages with guest speakers and lessons, and is willing to help out when needed.

“Hayden Adams is an outstanding addition to any classroom,” English language arts teacher Rebecca Lanier wrote. “He comes prepared, engages with the content, and respects his peers and teachers.”

Tillberry was honored for her strong work ethic and positive attitude.

“Annabella Tillberry is an exemplary student,” English language arts teacher Christopher Sinnett wrote. “Annabella is new to us at Medora, but she has made an impression on all her teachers. She’s a kid with the kind of mindset that teachers wish all students had.”

Math teacher Angela Pritchett said Tillberry is her top math student this school year so far.

“She works very hard and takes her work seriously,” Pritchett wrote.

Social studies teacher Reuben Nehrt wrote, “Annabella Tillberry is a wonderful student in the classroom. She comes to class prepared with a positive attitude and a bright smile.”

Teachers commended Edwards’ amiability and helpfulness.

Pritchett said Edwards is one of her sweetest students.

“He loves participating in class and helping his classmates,” Pritchett wrote. “Ayden always tries to do the right thing even when those around him are not. Ayden also likes to say funny things to make me laugh.”

Sinnett said Edwards is one of his favorite people and that even when taking criticism, he is always positive and engaging.

“When I tell him he did something wrong, he always says, ‘I can fix that,’” Sinnett wrote. “Boy howdy do I wish every kid had that mindset toward learning.”

Nehrt wrote, “Ayden Edwards is an outstanding middle schooler. He is generous, kind and very helpful in the classroom. I really appreciate his help in managing the sixth graders.”

After Hunt finished reading the teachers’ statements, she presented a certificate and T-shirt to the honorees.
