Marie I. Sexton, age 79, of Seymour, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown, surrounded by her loving daughters.

Mrs. Sexton was a member of First Baptist Church of Seymour for many years.

Marie had many different careers throughout her life, primarily as a bookkeeper for several businesses throughout the community.

Marie deeply valued her family. She was a beloved wife, a caring mother, and a proud grandmother. As an enthusiastic sports fan, she especially cherished attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. One of her daily highlights was doing the word jumble and sudoku in the newspaper. In addition, she enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, and watching many sports on television, particularly golf, football, and soccer.

Born on October 5, 1944, in Jeffersonville, Marie was the loving daughter of Raymond and Mary Alice (Walker) Burns, both of whom preceded her in death. On November 30, 1963, at Speed, Indiana, she married Mark Sexton, and he preceded her in death on May 11, 2008.

Survivors include four daughters: Alicia (Greg) Reedy of Seymour, Whitney (Chris) Allman of Seymour, Heather (Bart) Makowsky of New Albany, and Courtney (Kris) Kleber of Seymour; one sister, Alice Garrett of New Albany; and five grandchildren: Nathaniel Makowsky of Jeffersonville, Maria Makowsky of New Albany, R.J. Kleber of Seymour, Brett Kleber of Seymour, and Brandon “Spanky” Kleber of Seymour.

Mrs. Sexton was also preceded in death by one grandson, Grant Reedy; and two sisters: Sharon Kopp and Sue Ann Burns.

Funeral services for Marie I. Sexton will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Dr. Jeremy Myers officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.

Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Seymour, Hoosier Christian Village Auxiliary, or Schneck Medical Center Hospice.
