BROWNSTOWN

Betty Marie Dunaway, 74, was called home to the Lord Saturday, September 7, 2024, at her home in Brownstown, Indiana. She was born in Rushville, Indiana on August 25, 1950, to the late Raye and Louise (Gabbard) Dunaway.

Betty was a compassionate person who loved Jesus, doted on her family, and had many beloved friends who were like family to her. Her son Roger Shawn Achelpohl was the center of her world. She had a great sense of humor and a laugh that was contagious. She was also known as a compassionate woman who loved to help others. But Betty also spoke her mind and was very protective of those she loved. A hard worker her whole life, Betty passed this work ethic on to her children and grandchildren.

Betty enjoyed Native American culture and admired their connection to the earth. Along with her children and grandchildren, she liked collecting rocks and playing in the creek. She loved cats, red-tailed hawks and wolves. In fact, she was known on occasion to howl at a full moon. Betty was very artistic, loved music and loved to dance. Her beautiful spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Joy “Jodie” (Greg Norman) Underwood of Brownstown, Deanna “Dee Dee” (Estill Jr.) Bowman of Vallonia, Roger Shawn Achelpohl of Brownstown, and Tammy Spray, who was like a daughter to her; grandchildren, Zachary (Stacey) Bowman of Seymour, Nikki (Jeremiah Brown) Underwood of Seymour, Shanica (Brandon) Bowers of Seymour, David (Jamie Wheeler) Underwood of Brownstown, Elijah Bowman of Vallonia, and Autumn (Dennis) Hauff of Deputy; great grandchildren, Laila, Gavin, Brynley, Charlie, Brantley, Zebediah, Creed, Tyler, Briar, Isaac, Kyndallyn and Olivia; and her sister, Barbara Nelson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, listed above; and her brother, Roger D. Dunaway.

A memorial service for Betty will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. at First Pentecostal Church of Brownstown, 610 South Main Street. Pastor Ron Cox will officiate. Friends and family may gather beginning at 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

Cremation services have been entrusted to Voss and Sons Funeral Home in Seymour. You are invited to visit our website, vossfuneralservice.com, to leave condolences, order flowers or share a memory.
