Log Cabin Day celebration at Muscatatuck upcoming

Tale a step back in time to Indiana’s pioneer days as your family enjoys experiencing the history and natural beauty of Southern Indiana at the annual Log Cabin Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge.

The free event is sponsored by the Muscatatuck Wildlife Society.

The family friendly activities will take place at the Myers Family Cabin and Barn honoring the people who made this property their home. Come out and enjoy learning about pioneer and farm life in the country back in the 1880s.

Activities including live old-time music by Allie Jean & Friends, historic storytelling, the Myers Cabin tour, pioneer demonstrations including blacksmithing, chore-corral (where kids try chores from yesteryear), shuttle rides to the refuge’s closed area, and a free ham and bean lunch cooked on an open fire with homemade cornbread.

And for all those who enjoy the outdoors, Log Cabin Day kicks-off National Wildlife Refuge Week (Oct. 13 – 19), when visitors may explore the refuge’s hiking trails, lakes, birding, wildlife and fall colors, along with visiting the nature center and bookstore/gift shop.
