Volleyball

Seymour, Brownstown Central, Trinity Lutheran

The Owls, Braves, and Cougars all competed at Bloomington South on Saturday. Brownstown Central emerged victorious over all other competitors. The tournament was a best of three sets with the third set acting like the fifth set would in a normal volleyball match going to only 15.

The Lady Braves defeated Trinity, Seymour, Jasper, and Columbus North to secure the tournament win. Brownstown currently remains undefeated with an 8-0 record. Brownstown’s 25-23, and 25-23 win over Seymour was the Owls first loss of the season, as they finished second in the tournament.

Seymour defeated Columbus East 25-8, and 25-15 before defeating Bloomington South 25-20, and 25-13. The Owls also defeated East Central 25-16, and 25-10 before dropping the championship to Brownstown Central.

Like the Owls, Trinity Lutheran compiled a 3-1 record with their only loss coming to the champion Braves. The Cougars defeated Jasper in three sets, before defeating Columbus North 25-19, and 25-17. Trinity then downed Bloomington South 25-13, and 25-20 to end the meet with three wins and a record of 7-5 on the season.

Crothersville

The Tigers faced off with Southwestern (Hanover) and Lighthouse Christian Academy in volleyball to end the week. Crothersville fell to the Rebels 25-10, 25-18, and 25-5.

The team fell to the Lions 25-8, 25-9 and 25-16.

Crothersville is 1-5 on the season and travels to Medora for a county matchup on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Medora

The Hornets grabbed their first win of the new volleyball season on Friday over Seven Oaks Classical. Medora swept the Firehawks in three sets, 25-10, 25-10, and 25-17, improving to 1-3 on the season. The team travels to New Washington tomorrow for a match with New Washington at 6 p.m.

Medora then hosts Crothersville on Thursday at the same time.

Girls’ Golf

Brownstown Central

The Lady Braves hosted Hauser at Hickory Hills Golf Course in Brownstown on Friday evening. Brownstown secured the win with a score of 198.

Hauser did not register a team score after their fourth golfer didn’t finish the meet due to the extreme heat. Brownstown still would have won the meet if she had finished, just for clarification.

Khloe Lingenfelter shot a 45 for BC to earn medalist honors. Abby Schroer ended her round with a 47, while Jayda Clodfelder recorded a 51.

Claire Brelage had a 55, Mairi Shaw recorded a 58 and Kayleigh Jernigan carded a 61.

Girls’ Soccer

Seymour

The Lady Owls played a trio of games to end the past week. Facing Terre Haute South Vigo, Washington, and Martinsville in a tournament, dropping all three matches to the opposition.

Seymour lost 7-0 to Terre Haute, 7-1 to Washington, and 9-0 to Martinsville to fall to 1-6 on the season. The girls’ host Jeffersonville at the Seymour Soccer Complex tommorow for a Hoosier Hills Conference game.

Boys’ Soccer

Trinity Lutheran

The Cougars competed in multiple games over the weekend facing Indianapolis Arsenal Tech and Seton Catholic on Saturday.

Trinity lost in a shootout 4-3 after being tied at two after 90 minutes of play. Kade Gillaspy found the back of the net off an assist from John Harris, who scored the other goal for the Cougars in the game.

The team did not have any troubles scoring in the second contest, routing Seton Catholic 7-1 behind the hat-trick from Gillaspy. The senior has had nine goals in the last four games.

Alex Damon added two goals in the winning effort, while Harris and Isaiah Carrigan both scored once for Trinity Lutheran. The Cougars will travel to the Christian Academy of Indiana tomorrow at 6 p.m.

Brownstown Central had two winners on Saturday at the Salem Invite, as Shane Ratliff won the boys’ meet with a time of 17:13.9. Chance Ratliff was in second place behind his brother with a time of 17:14.5.

Eli Crockett finished in 4th for the Braves. Damien Owens ended in 10th, while Logan Chavarria followed right behind in 11th place. Chase Blann ended in 36th, while Kaden Lingenfelter finished 46th.

Brownstown Central won the boys meet with a score of 22. Trinity Lutheran ended in 5th place with a score of 113.

In the girls’ race BC’s Kaylee Steward won the race with a time of 22:21.7. Trinity Cody recorded a top 5 finish with her time of 24:16.9. Chelsie Combs finished in 16th, Claire Schepman ended in 22nd, while Jessica Pitts was 27th.

Trinity’s Cheyenne Campbell finished in 9th place for the Cougars, clocking a 24:54.9 in the top 10 finish. Elizabeth Downey ended in 23rd, while Emma Mellencamp crossed the finish line in 28th place.

Oliver Eggersman registered the best performance on the boys’ side for Trinity Lutheran, clocking a 20:23.7 for a 13th place finish. Nathan Negrete ended in 22nd, while Stephen Traeger finished 41st. Rylan Adair ended in 43rd, and Sam Dyer followed right behind in 44th place.

Mitchell won the girls’ meet with a team score of 35, while Brownstown finished in second place with a 44.

The Owls boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams competed in the Franklin Invitational on Saturday against competition throughout the state.

Gracie Adams had the best performance for either team, placing 22nd with a time of 21:32.2. Izabellah Long ended her race in 35th. Emma Doriot finished 53rd, while Aidda Schepman ended in 70th and Lauren Dowell crossed the line in 76th. Kelly Beavers finished in 96th place. The Lady Owls finished in 7th place with a team score of 197.

Caleb Jablonski had the best finish for the boys with 41st place, clocking a 17:56.60 for Seymour.

Wes Proffer followed in 68th for the Owls, while teammate Ty Tormoehlen finished 69th. JJ Meyers finished his race in 71st place. Jacob Caudill crossed the finish line in 77th, while Ryder Thompson finished in 82nd and Will Proffer in 110th to round out the scoring finishes for the Owls.

Seymour finished in 9th place in the boys’ race with a score of 249.

Boys’ Tennis

Trinity Lutheran

The Cougars boys’ tennis team traveled to Paoli on Saturday for a match on the courts. The Rams won the meet 3-2 over Trinity, splitting the doubles matches and winning two of three in the singles contests.

Trinity No. 1 Jack Stuckwisch defeated Kirk Hughes 2-6, 6-4, and 6-2. The one doubles team of Nathan Finke and Jonathan Neawedde secured their match win over Klay Turner and Chad Sullivan, 6-2, and 7-5.

Trinity travels to Clarksville tomorrow for a match at 5:30 p.m.

Brownstown Central

The Braves bounced back with a win over Clarksville on Saturday after dropping their match with Scottsburg on Thursday. Brownstown Central won all their matches but the third singles contest. No. 1 singles player Smith Hackman defeated Jason Brooks, 6-2, 6-0. Chase Brock won the second singles match over Travis Utera, 6-2, and 6-3.

Jeremiah Freeman and Max Peters battled in the No. 3 singles match to the end, with Freeman winning 4-6, 6-4, and 6-4.

Pierson Wheeler and Lane Steward didn’t fool around on Saturday, sweeping the one doubles duo of Luke Tyler and Drake Rupprecht 6-0, and 6-0. The second group of Brady Davis and Trey Isaacs also won 6-1, and 6-3.

Brownstown improves to 3-4 on the 2024 season and is back in action Thursday at Austin High School at 5 p.m.
