Donations, teams sought for 1010 project

The Alley will be hitting the streets again this year with the Thousand Ten Project at 11 a.m. Sept. 14 to bring people together and help fellow residents of Seymour.

Organizers of the annual project, first held in 2011, are seeking more teams and volunteers to go out into the community to help those in need.

Each person attending will be asked to bring $10 to help reach as many people as possible while living out The Alley’s mission to “Love God, love people.”

Teams of 10 people will gather in the fellowship center at First Baptist Church, 505 Community Drive, for live music, a freewill donation lunch and then they will hit the streets.

Teams are asked to have a captain and will be assigned a family to assist, go to their home and use the money to provide them with what they need the most. If someone would like to participate but does not have a team, just show up and you will be assigned to a team.

The Alley also is looking for sponsorships from businesses, churches and individuals in the community.

There are three sponsorship levels available for the Thousand Ten Project: Diamond level for $500 (name in large print on the back of the Thousand Ten Project T-shirt, name mentioned and amount given in the newspaper); gold level for $250 (name in medium print on the back of the event T-shirt, name mentioned and amount given in the newspaper); and silver level for $100 (name on back of the event T-shirt and name mentioned in the newspaper).

To submit a sponsorship or to donate, send a check or money order to The Alley, P.O. Box 191, Seymour, IN 47274 and mention it’s for the Thousand Ten Project.

Monetary donations also may be dropped off at First Baptist Church during weekday office hours from 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Any money coming in after Sept. 10 will go into the benevolence fund.

These funds will go toward providing groceries, furniture, clothing, mowing lawns and paying utility bills for those in need.

“We’ve heard many testimonies from people who have participated in our 1010 over the years and it has been such a blessing to hear just how much of a positive effect it has had,” said Tina Fleetwood, board member of The Alley and organizer of the Thousand Ten Project.

Anyone unable to attend the Thousand Ten Project on Sept. 10 can still donate to the effort or The Alley, which serves meals every weekday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. and helps people in other ways.
