Battle to the end; Cougars fall to Austin 2-1 on Monday evening

Trinity and Austin were both searching for their first win of the new season on Monday evening. The Cougars and Eagles battled to the end, as Austin secured the 2-1 victory over Trinity Lutheran.

The Cougars held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half after a goal from Anyah Carrigan. The Eagles would then score in the 48th and 67th minute to steal the win from the home team.

Carrigan was very close to another score at the end of the first half, but Trinity just fell short of a comeback. Trinity Assistant Coach Genesis Munoz spoke about the outcome against Austin on Monday evening.

“Our biggest thing is that I feel we need to start coming to games ready to play,” Munoz said. “Today, we started off on a pretty high note, scoring early and having that advantage for quite some time. But we also need to learn to keep our intensity and play an entire 80 minutes of soccer.”

It was a scrappy effort from both teams; and a very physical game to say the least.

“I saw a big change in Hannah (Helt) tonight,” she said. “She played constantly in goal and tonight she had some very good saves, keeping us in reach for the entire game.”

Helt was active throughout the entire game, defending the net for the Cougars to the best of her ability. Coach Munoz spoke about some things the team needs to improve on as we progress through the season.

“We’re really trying to improve on our passing, making good passes and also improving on our shots on goal,” Munoz said. “We also need to execute our opportunities better and get more shots at the goal throughout games.”

The Cougars will hit the road a lot soon. Three of the next four games will be on the road for Trinity Lutheran.

After traveling to Silver Creek on Tuesday, Trinity travels to Greenwood Christian Academy tomorrow for a game at 5 p.m. The Cougars host North Harrison next Saturday.
